Record breaking season at Astley & Buckshaw!
It’s been another record breaking season at Astley & Buckshaw Junior Football Club.
Boys and girls of all ages celebrated their end of season awards at the Westway playing fields as part of a huge family fun day and football tournament.
More than 169 players, spread across 16 teams of mixed genders and abilities from the foundation phase, came together on Saturday to mark the end of the 2022-23 season.
Across the course of the last 12 months 25 Astley & Buckshaw Juniors teams, featuring more than 370 boys and girls aged 6 -18 trained and played in matches across Lancashire.
The club’s mantra of friendship, community and inclusion saw children of all abilities taking their first steps into the game, or thriving under the stewardship of ABJFC’s army of FA trained coaches.
Next season – the club’s 20th – promises to deliver more football than ever before
Darren Marsden, the club’s chairman said: “It’s been another brilliant year here at Astley & Buckshaw Junior Football Club, which has seen the club take on new facilities at Westway which will really enhance the quality of the provision we can provide for our members and with new volunteers really buying into our inclusive and development focused ethos there is a great buzz around the the club and we are in a great place to thrive and continue to evolve.
“With the success of our development sessions Tiger Cubs and Wildcats, next season will be even bigger with 4 new under 7s teams and 1 under 8s team being formed”
The event also featured a cake sale which raised £180 for Darcie Tobutt, a local 3 year girl who has recently been diagnosed with leukaemia and the launch of a boot-swap to encourage children and parents to recycle their old equipment and save money. Donations can be made via GoFundme
