Astley and Buckshaw Junior Football Club first began organising school holiday programmes within the local community back in 2005 and was instigated by the club’s President and the local County Councillor, Mark Perks.
The programme involves outdoor sport activities based around football and various venues have been used over the last nine years such as:-
Buckshaw Primary School
Chorley RUFC ground
Parklands High School
Astley Village Playing field
and most recently at Trinity CoE/Methodist Buckshaw Village.
The club has recently been successful in obtaining funding for 2014 and so the Easter and summer holidays schemes will mark the club’s 10th year of organising sport activities for children and young people aged 5 to 11 years. The club works with various other young people organisations such as MACY and Buckshaw Youth and will also be providing coaches for a February half term project in Buckshaw Village.
The holiday schemes have proven to be very popular with families and young people, there success has been attributed to Astley and Buckshaw JFC using its home grown FA coaches many of who have actually attended previous programmes themselves, currently play for the Youth team and are students at Runshaw College. The schemes are low cost therefore providing an affordable option for young people who like to engage in sport activities. Since 2005 over 4000 children and young people have taken part in the holiday schemes.
