Under 8s 2017/2018 A Season in Review

The season started off to a somewhat disappointing start with the news that Central Venue was not fit to play on due to a combination of poor weather and a visit from the travelling community. Unfortunately, after a number of false starts and the inability of the league to arrange other venues the season was eventually cancelled.

Astley and Buckshaw dug deep and provided alternative all weather facilities throughout the winter months for the under 8s and we made Parklands astro turf our home for winter and managed to arrange friendly matches most weekends. Some of the more memorable matches played over the season included matches against Ribbleton Yellows, Eccleston Ambers, Eccleston Blacks, Walton-le-dale and Brinscall.

The team where also delighted to meet the Gorilla Glue Gorilla and present the UK Managing Director with a commemorative shirt to hang in the office.

Only 3 of players starting the 2017/2018 season had played the year before at Under 7 level so did brilliantly to compete with other more experienced teams, as the season progressed it was a great reward for the coaches to see each and every player improve and as the Christmas break approached the team celebrated their progress with a Christmas party arranged by the parents.

A special highlight of the season was seeing Isaiah getting recognised for his ability and being invited to train with Liverpool Academy. The trial came late on the season for Isaiah and we where delighted to hear that he had impressed and Liverpool offer him a place at their Academy for 2018 – 2019. All the team are sad to see Isaiah and his infectious smile and goal celebrations go but we wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him from time to time.

As the season came to a close the team competed in a number of tournaments at Bispham JFC, Myerscough and Lancashire FA and loved the experience. We closed the under 8 season with a Presentation Day with the Under 9s at Euxton Greenside where the players where presentation with trophies. Special awards where presented to

  • Daniel Taylor – Parents Player of the Year
  • Charlie Todd – Players Player of the Year
  • Jake Marsden – Most Improved Player of the Year
  • Isaiah Garin – Coaches Player of the Year
  • James Bradshaw – Clubman of the Year

As the team look forward to 2019 as Under 9s we would like to thank parents who brings their kids down to training and matches, the club committee and our sponsors Gorilla Glue UK for their continued support.

2016 Annual Presentation Tournament & Awards Event

Saturday 4th June and Sunday 5th June ABJFC hosted our annual awards. 2016 saw a change in style for our awards from a formal sit down event to a full club tournament event. Based on feedback from our players and advise from Lancashire FA’s Welfare officer Neil Yates we decided to give the tournament format a try and what a massive success it was …….

Comments from parents and players alike showing what a great event it turned out to be can be seen in our twitter feed. The weather was perfect and both days saw more than 400 club members enjoying themselves whether taking part in games, watching matches, throwing wet sponges at their coaches, watching Infinity Dance School exhibiting some of their new routines, having fun on the giant bouncy castle, winning on the penalty shoot-out game, enjoying Ice Creams from Robinsons or just relaxing. Thanks to everyone who helped organise the day and to Stefan Willoughby for doing the club official photos.

Under 12 Blue Team go into Europe ….

After two years of hard work for the players raising more than £7000 the Under 12 Blue Team headed off to the continent over the May Bank Holiday weekend. 14 players and their dads boarded a AVA Travel luxury coach in Leyland at midnight on Thursday 26th May for a 16 hour coach and ferry journey that took them deep into Europe, the destination being Duinrell Holland.

During the four day trip the U12’s player two Dutch teams at their home venues and what fantastic venues they were. VV KatwijK where the first team to host our U12’s where we played a fabulous game resulting in an unfortunate 0-3 loss despite our U12’s hitting the crossbar three times and the post once. Nevertheless the U12’s thoroughly enjoyed themselves and loved the experience. Our hosts where fantastic and treated us all like internationals.

The second match hosted by VV Rockanje was  played on the Sunday in glorious weather at another top facility was the icing on the cake for the players, a toughly fought game saw our Captain for the Match score a fantastic free kick to open our European account and resulted in the boys finishing with a stomping 3-6 victory. Even better was the fact that all six goals were scored by separate players meaning just short of half the squad have European goals to their names, what a memory for the boys.

After each game the players and Dad’s made the most of the base camp venue at Duinrell which included a theme park and a water park.
